The Mediterranean Tuna
Mediterranean tuna is one of the most traditional and prized forms of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) fishing. It is called “Tonno di corsa” tuna because it is caught during its spring migration, when these majestic pelagic fish enter the Mediterranean from the Atlantic to reach their breeding grounds, especially in the Sardinian Sea and the Strait of Sicily.
A Sustainable Catch
Hook and longline fishing is a selective and sustainable technique — a conscious choice that respects the sea and the well-being of the fish. Each tuna is caught individually, minimizing stress and ensuring better quality. Specific bait is used to target only fully grown specimens, avoiding overfishing of young tuna and helping protect the species.
Compared to industrial methods, this approach results in a fresher, more flavorful product. It also ensures full traceability — for a safe, reliable tuna that meets the highest standards. This is how we produce Solky’s finest canned tuna.
Handcrafted in Sardinia
We select only the best sustainably caught tuna from the Mediterranean and process it by hand in our facility in Sant’Antioco, Sardinia. After being rapidly chilled at low temperatures, the tuna is gently cooked, hand-filleted, carefully packed into jars, and preserved in olive oil. The result is a tuna with an authentic, balanced, and naturally rich flavor.
