4 slices of rustic bread (e.g., sourdough or country-style)
1 small red onion
1 tablespoon of capers (salted or pickled, rinsed)
Extra virgin olive oil, to taste
A few drops of lemon juice (optional)
Fresh parsley or oregano (optional, for garnish)
Black pepper, to taste
Preparation:
Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp.
Thinly slice the red onion and, if desired, soak it in cold water for 10 minutes to soften the flavor. Drain and pat dry.
Gently drain the buzzonaglia and break it into chunks.
Top each slice of bread with a layer of tuna, followed by onion slices and a few capers.
Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, add a few drops of lemon juice if desired, and season with black pepper.
Garnish with fresh parsley or oregano. Serve immediately.
